We're a neighborhood site, and we treat your information the way we'd want a neighbor to treat ours. Here's the whole deal, without the legalese.
What we collect
- Newsletter signups: your email address, and — only if you give them — your first name and neighborhood. We use double opt-in: nothing is sent until you confirm from your inbox.
- Tips, event submissions, and open-house listings: whatever you type in the form, plus an optional name and email so we can follow up. Your email is never published.
- Basic web analytics: which pages get read and where visitors come from, via Google Analytics — only if you accept the cookie prompt (we default to no analytics cookies until you do, and declining changes nothing about how the site works). We don't build individual profiles, and we don't run ad trackers.
What we do with it
- Send the newsletter you asked for. Every issue has a one-tap unsubscribe, and it works immediately.
- Read your tips and publish the information in them — never your contact details.
- Report audience numbers to sponsors only in aggregate ("N subscribers, X% opens") — never names, never emails.
What we will never do
- Sell, rent, or trade your email or personal information. To anyone. Ever.
- Publish a tipster's identity without asking first.
- Disguise advertising as editorial — sponsored placements are always labeled.
Third parties we rely on
Email is delivered by Postmark. Place photos and some place details come from Google's Places service and are fetched at display time with attribution. Weather and creek data come from the National Weather Service and USGS (public domain). Links to events, tickets, and news stories take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe: the link at the bottom of every email, or write us.
- Delete your data: email [email protected] and we'll remove your subscriber record and any submissions tied to your email.
- Questions: same address. A human reads it.
If we ever change this policy in a way that matters, we'll say so in the newsletter — not bury it here.
